Legislative committee looking into synthetic drugs again

March 04, 2013

The Senate Judiciary Committee today takes up the latest measure to combat synthetic drugs, like bath salts. House Republican Eddie Farnsworth's bill is aimed at making the use of the latest compounds to mimic a marijuana-like high illegal. Senate Democrat Steve Gallardo says he knows it's repetitious but he's happy to address the problem.

“This is about protecting our kids; this is about making our community safe,” Gallardo said. “It’s unfortunate that we have to continue to deal with this type of policy every year. However, that’s the day and age that we live in.”

Gallardo says he's willing to address the issue, every legislative session, if need be.
