A competency evaluation has been ordered for a Phoenix woman accused of throwing a shoe at Hillary Clinton while the former Secretary of State addressed a convention in Las Vegas.

An attorney for Alison Ernst sought the psychological exam, after telling a U.S. Magistrate that Ernst was unable to understand the charges against her or help with her own defense. The Magistrate will review results of the testing in mid-July.

The 36-year-old Ernst had been set to go to trial this month after pleading not guilty to misdemeanor trespassing and violence against a person, charges that could send her to a federal prison for two years.

A federal public defender suggests Ernst may have been legally insane when she threw a soccer shoe at Clinton in April.
