Operations at the American Legion’s Veterans Crisis Command Center wrapped up Friday afternoon. Veterans Affairs representatives assisted more than 580 veterans through the course of the week.

The center had been running since Tuesday with the mission of helping veterans resolve the issues they’ve been facing with the VA’s benefits and medical appointment systems.

Angel Juarez is with the American Legion. He said the event was the first of its kind and described it as a resounding success.

"It’s just been elation every day, especially when you hear about folks and you see the expression on their faces for finally being able to receive benefits," said Juarez

Juarez added that veterans can expect to see more events like this in the future. The next Crisis Command Center will be opening in Fayetteville North Carolina next week.
