Last month, the Federal Aviation Administration announced 149 airport control towers would close starting next week, as a result of the sequester budget cuts.

Four of those towers are in Arizona. The FAA says the airports themselves will stay open.

To find out how pilots operate without the towers, KJZZ's Mark Brodie spoke with Jared Testa, who is the Chief Flight Instructor at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott Campus. He was also joined by representatives from two of the Arizona airports whose towers will be closing, Chad Makovsky, Phoenix’s Assistant Aviation Director, and Danette Bewley, Senior Director of Operations and Maintenance for the Tucson Airport Authority.
