FAA to delay airport tower closures

The Federal Aviation Administration says it will delay the closures of towers at 149 airports across the country, including four in Arizona.
Towers were supposed to have started closing Sunday night, but the FAA says it’ll now wait until June 15. In a statement, the agency says the additional time will allow it to “attempt to resolve multiple legal challenges to the closure decisions.”
Several airports have sued to try to block the tower closures. Four Arizona airports are scheduled to lose federal funding for their towers, including Phoenix Goodyear, Glendale Municipal and Ryan Field in Tucson. Ryan Field’s tower had been scheduled to close Sunday night.
The closures stem from federal budget cuts, as part of sequestration.
