Arizona, Sonora Governors Speak Out On Migration

Sonora, Mex., Gov. Guillermo Padres was in Paradise Valley last week for the regular meeting of the Arizona-Mexico Commission. The flood of immigrants from Central America was a hot topic for the already scheduled meeting.

Both Padres and Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer say the problem was the responsibility of the federal government. But Padres says he encourages people in Sonora to warn those who may be thinking about crossing the border.

“Trying to persuade them not to take that step and come into the United States, to know that there are risks and they're going to be breaking laws,” Padres said.

But he says the decision about entering the U.S. is ultimately made by those involved.  Brewer says the two states do not have the resources to solve the issue and the federal governments of the U.S. and Mexico need to do something.
