The Stack Interchange
The I-17/I-10 Interchange, west of downtown Phoenix—the first major freeway interchange in Phoenix. It came to be known as “The Stack,” when it was built in the mid-1980s.
The Mini Stack Interchange
The intersection of State Route 51/the Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway/and the I-10, east of downtown Phoenix) was the Valley’s second major freeway interchange. It seemed smaller than “The Stack,” even though it’s the intersection of three freeways, and called “Mini Stack,” as a result.
The Split
The point near Sky Harbor Airport, where I-10 and I-17 merge—It’s the start of I-17, which runs north to Flagstaff.
The Superstition Transition
The merger of the US 60 (Superstition Freeway) and the I-10 (Maricopa Freeway) near the Broadway Curve.
Broadway Curve
The point near Broadway Road, in Tempe, where I-10 turns west toward Phoenix. As a reference point, the Tempe Buttes are just east of the freeway at this location.
Durango Curve
The curve on I-17, near the Durango Road exit, southwest of the downtown area. It’s where I-17 turns to the east, prior to intersecting with I-10, at the Split.
North Stack Interchange
The intersection of I-17 and the Loop 101 at about Beardsley Road, in North Phoenix.
SuperRedTan Interchange
The intersection of the Superstition (US 60), the Red Mountain portion of the Loop 202 and the Santan portion of the Loop 202, in East Mesa.
The Dreamy Draw
The area north of Northern on State Route 51, where the highway angles to the northeast, near the Dreamy Draw Dam.
