Arizona runners use social media to communicate in Boston

April 16, 2013

Reports indicate all of the more than 250 Arizonans who ran Monday's Boston Marathon survived the finish line explosions without injury.

Barry Anderson of the Runner's Den in Phoenix, says many in the Arizona group didn't know what to think, at first.

“Because it was so close to four hours into the marathon, they thought someone was shooting off like a cannon to celebrate the four hour mark in the marathon,” Anderson said. “And then when it went off again, they knew something was wrong.”

Anderson says the 20 to 25 runners with connections to his store have made social media contact and are safe, but shaken.
