At least one child was hurt when the engine of a boat exploded over the weekend on Apache Lake. Joaquin Enriquez of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says fortunately there were no serious injuries.

“It’s under investigation right now as far as what caused the explosion of the boat engine,” Enriquez said. “Detectives are trying to sort that out right now, but at this time it appears to be accidental.”

Initial reports said two children had possibly been burned in the blast but when Rural Metro officials arrived they found only one child with minor injuries.
