Voting opens for a new Sparky
The voting is now open to the public. ASU is giving the Sparky mascot costume a new look, again – but this time the university wants your input.
Starting today, anyone associated with ASU, from students, staff and faculty, to alums, ticket holders and donors can log on to ASU’s website to pick their favorite costume. There are four to choose from.

Sparky has gone through more than a dozen makeovers since its debut in 1946. Each time the university alone decided on the new Sparky look, including the most recent unveiling in March, which was met with criticism.
Shortly after the negative feedback, ASU announced it would change Sparky again with the public’s help. Voting ends May 5. The winning look will be announced on May 7. The new Sparky will debut in August in time for the start of the fall semester.
