Arraignment Delayed For Man Charged In Phoenix Priest Shooting

The man accused of beating a Phoenix priest with a metal rod and fatally shooting another has had his arraignment delayed.

Gary Michael Moran is being held on $1 million bond. He’s charged with first-degree murder, burglary and armed robbery, among other charges. He hasn’t yet entered a plea.

Thursday morning attorneys moved to continue the arraignment, and the judge granted a two-week delay.

Authorities say Moran attacked the Rev. Joseph Terra at the Mother of Mercy Mission on June 11. Police say he then fatally shot the Rev. Kenneth Walker. Moran was arrested a few days later, after police say his DNA matched forensic evidence collected from the scene.

He had spent time in prison for previous weapons violations and burglary convictions.
