Campaign finance case against Horne could be dismissed Thursday
A Maricopa County Superior Court judge is expected to issue a ruling today on a request from Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne and an aide
to throw out a campaign finance case against him. Horne's attorney Michael Kimerer argued in court Wednesday that Secretary of State Ken Bennett erred in forwarding the complaint to Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery, and that the $840 limit on how much Horne could take from a single source is unconstitutionally low.
"You simply can't be competitive in a campaign when the limits are so low with somebody that has a lot of money. So you need to raise the limits so he can be competitive. That's the guts of the issue. And that whole statute is basically all tied up in that," Kimerer said.
An administrative law judge agreed but Montgomery rejected the finding. Horne has asked the Superior Court to review that decision.
