While spectacular wildfires devastate sections of forest land in Arizona every year, Forest Service officials say many wildfires are small, and stay that way because of the inter-agency fire team. Bill Van Brugen of the Forest Service in Albuquerque says proactive efforts are paying off.

“We’re continuing with our accelerated restoration efforts on the National Forest,” Van Brugen said. “This will go a long way in reducing these numbers of large destructive fires. We are treating tens of thousands of acres each year.”
