Student tests positive for tuberculosis, more students tested

Health officials in Maricopa County are testing some students at Scottsdale's Desert Mountain High School for tuberculosis after one student tested positive for TB. Spokeswoman Jeanene Fowler says they want to determine if anyone who had a class with that student has been infected.

“We do what’s called a contact investigation where we work with and locate the people that are around that person and we give them a skin test for TB,” Fowler said. “So, that’s exactly what we’re doing at this school.”

Fowler says about 150 of the school's 2,500 students will likely be tested. She says TB is not incredibly contagious, so health officials are not overly concerned about getting a lot of positive skin tests back.
