Medical marijuana to be allowed on university campuses, for research

The governor has signed legislation allowing medical marijuana onto university campuses, at least for research. The voter-approved medical marijuana law had stopped the efforts of physician Sue Sisley of the University of Arizona, who is looking at treatment-resistant post-traumatic stress disorder among combat veterans.

"So that means they failed medication and psychotherapy and we are going to be examining five different dosages of smoked and vaporized marijuana," Sisley said.

Sisley said the legislation points up the value of the university system, where complex and controversial subjects can be examined in an environment not plagued by politics. Sisley still needs the Drug Enforcement Administration to sign off on her research effort.
