Fire burns 15 acres of Tonto National Forest

May 28, 2013

Firefighters are attempting to get the upper hand on a wildfire north of Young, Ariz., on the Tonto National Forest. The blaze charred over 15 acres after being spotted Monday afternoon and is burning in mixed conifer on steep terrain, according to spokeswoman Tammy Pike.

“It’s heavy mixed conifer fuels and it’s in a rocky steep area,” Pike said. “It started going up hill, is where they caught it and started working on it.”

Pike says the cause of the fire remains under investigation. It has already destroyed one structure and a precautionary evacuation has been ordered for a ranch and a subdivision in the area.
