Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett said he supports a bill in the U.S. House that aims to make sure people are not registered to vote in more than one state. He testified before a House committee Tuesday. Bennett was one of three people to testify before the Committee on House Administration, discussing the Voter Registration Efficiency Act. The measure would require people who register to vote when they get a drivers’ license in a new state to say whether they will be voting in the new state. In his testimony, Bennett pointed out the collaboration between county recorders in Arizona and said under the bill, that would be the case between the states as well.

"Obviously, the main goal of this legislation is to enhance the accuracy of our voter registration records throughout the country, but, I think a side benefit would be to deter duplicate voting," Bennett said.

In addition to Bennett, committee members also heard from Michigan’s Elections Director and the president of the League of Women Voters.
