Storm Leaves Lake Havasu Residents Without Power For Days
About 50 homes are still without electricity in Lake Havasu City after powerful winds swept through on Sunday. Power is expected to be restored sometime Thursday. Originally, about 14,000 customers were without service after more than 35 poles were downed by a storm. Most were up and running within a few hours.
Joseph Barrios is a spokesman for Tucson-based Unisource Energy Services. He said his company is using temporary lines and even generators to restore power to the customers who are still affected. Barrios said this is the second time in about a month a storm has caused blackouts in Lake Havasu City. Last time, 16,000 customers were hit.
“That’s unlike anything anyone can remember, at least in recent memory,” Barrios said. “Certainly, it’s not something that happens every year.”
Unisource Energy employees have been going door to door, Barrios said, and giving updates to customers. And there is some good news for residents. Though daily highs have been over 100, they’ve been a few degrees cooler than normal.
