Gannett has become the latest media powerhouse to divide up its broadcast and newspaper holdings — joining Tribune, among others. 

Gannett’s presence is especially big around the Valley, because it owns the Arizona Republic and KPNX-TV Channel 12.

We talked with media analyst Ken Doctor, who writes about the business at Newsonomics.com and former Arizona Republic columnist Jon Talton, who has worked for a couple of Gannett papers. He now writes for The Seattle Times, which is exclusively online.
