Brewer's Endorsement Of Smith Raises The Money Stakes

Gov. Jan Brewer’s endorsement of his campaign this week was money to former Mesa Mayor Scott Smith — literally.

A campaign aide says they’ve raised $100,000 since Smith got Brewer’s support.  To keep up, State Treasurer Doug Ducey has put $200,000 of his own money into his campaign.

Smith, meantime, is deflecting criticism from Ducey that he traveled the globe at taxpayer expense, saying any travel he did was on the citizens’ behalf,

“To go and meet with the FAA over Williams Gateway Airport, to meet with potential investors of Mesa and to go back and advocate for Arizona on things like immigration, and other issues," Smith said.

Also since the Brewer endorsement, Smith has picked up the support of the United Phoenix Firefighters Association.
