Tomorrow
marks the 23rd anniversary of the hottest day in Phoenix history. The high hit 122 on that day
in 1990, and that caused a problem for air travelers. Sky Harbor
spokeswoman Deborah Ostricher said it was not the heat that prevented the planes from taking off, despite what has
turned into an urban legend.
“There
was a time back in the early 90s when flight manuals didn't go up to 122, so
when you had to file your flight plan there was no way to file 122 degrees,”
Ostricher said. “That has since been corrected.”
Ostricher
said that correction came after the historic
heat wave. Phoenix
is not expected to hit 122 tomorrow, but the forecast is calling for 109 and 117 on Friday and Saturday. And, do not think there will be any relief from the skies. There is no chance of rain in
the Valley, through the weekend.
