Kearny Fire 5 Percent Contained

July 09, 2013

The wildfire that caused the evacuation of residents from the town of Kearny Monday night is still not under control. The town of Kearny is 70 miles southeast of Florence.  Officials battling the wildfire in Kearny say the fire is now 5 percent contained. Evacuation orders have been lifted for about 100 homes.

Fire officials said the town lost power early Tuesday. Arizona Public Service said electricity has been restored to most homes. However, the utility said power remains off for 22 residences because of the continuing fire threat to the area.

Authorities said lightning caused the fire.
