In advance of Labor Day, gas prices around Arizona dropped for the eighth straight week. The good news is that prices dropped more than two cents from last week. The bad news is that the statewide average of $3.44 a gallon is the second highest in the last five years.

AAA Arizona says prices are going down because of continued low crude oil prices, The agency says barring a hurricane that damages refineries, or further conflict overseas, prices should continue their fall.

Around 557,000 Arizonans are expected to travel this Labor Day weekend, with the majority of them expected to drive.

Tucson drivers pay the cheapest gas prices in the state, while Flagstaff has the most expensive. Nationwide, South Carolina has the lowest average prices, while Oregon has the highest. The national average stands at $3.43 a gallon.
