Floods In Yavapai County Presented Big Problem Over Weekend

July 29, 2013

Officials say northern Yavapai County was pelted with four inches of rain in many areas.  Emergency Management Coordinator Denny Foulk says as a result, flooding became a big problem.

“Flooding into the Kaibab Estates and Coconino County and into Ashfork itself,” Foulk said. “What we noticed was some heavy flows that crossed the highway and closed I-40 for a period of time.”

The public was being advised to exercise extreme caution and avoid crossing areas where water was flowing and roads were covered. Foulk says some of the roads may be damaged and the damage may not be visible to motorists. Foulk says the heaviest rains were in the area from Seligman to Williams, along the Mogollon Rim. That produced heavy flows in Ash Forks and northern Yavapai County.
