Arizona Congressman Ruben Gallego was in Phoenix Thursday for a forum on immigration.

About 50 people attended the event at Isaac Middle School. They heard from Gallego, community activists and a lawyer who reviewed their rights.

The Trump administration has made immigrants so confused and scared that they’re questioning if they should even apply for citizenship, Gallego said.

“Obviously, Trump is not the friend of the immigrant community,” Gallego said. “But at the same time, we can’t be afraid to basically exercise our due process.”

House Democrats can slow down plans for mass deportations by withholding votes on funding, Gallego said.

Congress is currently on recess, and members of the House and Senate are due back in Washington later this month.
