Search Begins For Cavazos Successor

August 22, 2013

The Phoenix City Council has voted to begin a national search to find a City Manager.

David Cavazos has served as Phoenix City Manager since 2009. He announced early this month that he’s stepping down to take the same position with Santa Ana, Calif.

Some had argued that with the possibility of new city council members being elected this month, it was better to wait to replace Cavazos. But in an 8-1 vote Wednesday, the Phoenix City Council moved to hire an executive recruitment firm to find his successor.

It could take up to six months to hire a new Phoenix city manager, but Mayor Greg Stanton says he doesn’t want a set timetable.
