A coalition of news organizations wants access to key documents in the "Serial Street Shooter" case.

Lawyers from all sides were in court Wednesday to argue for and against releasing a court document called a Form IV, which includes a probable-cause statement.

Phoenix police have accused Aaron Saucedo of being the "Serial Street Shooter," but he has not yet been formally charged.

Saucedo is charged with a 2015 homicide. His lawyer said releasing documents from the "Serial Street Shooter" probe could hurt Saucedo’s chance to get a fair trial in the 2015 case.

The prosecution argued the documents should remain sealed, at least until the state decides whether to charge Saucedo. The state also said due process rights for Saucedo and the victims are at stake.

The lawyer for the media argued that the state’s argument lacks merit. He cited case First Amendment case law and said the prosecution failed to give specific facts why the documents should not be made public.
