US Airways And American Airlines Employees Argue Merger In Washington DC
US Airways and its prospective partner American Airlines set out Tuesday morning on a two-day summit to Washington, DC. The companies are sending 300 employees to argue in favor of an imperiled merger. US Airways and American are chartering two flights, one from Dallas and the other from Phoenix. US Airways spokesman John McDonald said people from both airlines will be on board.
"It’s ramp people, it’s pilots, it’s flight attendants, it’s ticket agents," McDonald said. "It’s the whole cross-section of employees around our airline."
McDonald said the employees will meet with members of Congress to explain why a merger would create a more stable airline. A federal lawsuit to stop the deal will go to trial in November. It claims the merger would slap consumers with higher fares and reduced competition.
