Despite Shutdown, Lake Pleasant Stays Open

While other Arizona lakes with federal connections are closing, one big one, close to home remains open.

Lake Pleasant Park Supervisor David Jordan says the lake is open and expects a large influx of visitors who are unable to enjoy other parks.

“We’ve been working with out staff just to kind of get prepared for it, trying to be as accommodating as we can,” Jordan said. “It’s very important during this time period that we still show people that there is a connection with nature.”

Jordan says while the Bureau of Reclamation owns the land on which Lake Pleasant is located, the park is managed by the Maricopa County Parks Department, which allows it to remain open even when the federal government is shut down.
