At-risk families will continue to have in-home resources provided through the Arizona Department of Health Services because a federal grant will keep the programs going.

The national Health Resources and Services Administration announced $10.8 million in funding for a program that follows families through pregnancy to kindergarten.

ADHS portions out the funds through county and Native American programs, plus others, to help new parents as they care for children.

That can include counseling, clothing assistance and transportation.

Arizona's Children's Health Office Chief Laura Bellucci said the program helps give local children a better chance in life.

"It's important for us to have that in Arizona so families can have that individualized attention and care and the children are successful in their growth and development," Bellucci said.

More than 2,000 families were served this year under the same grant.
