The winter storm marching across Arizona has shutdown schools in Flagstaff this morning and forecasters are expecting the snowfall to continue.   Dan White, Meteorologist from Flagstaff's National Weather Service in Flagstaff says Northeastern Arizona is getting the brunt of this storm.

"It is hammering Navajo County with snow and rain below 5,000 feet.  We have had reports of 8-12 inches of snow in the Showlow area overnight,"  White said.

This storm is moving slowly to the east. White says you can expect 3 to 5 inches along Interstate 40 between Winslow and Holbrook. Navajo and Apache counties will be in a winter storm warning through this afternoon. The Flagstaff area will see some improvement late morning. White says you should be prepared for this weather when you’re on the road.

"It may not be your fault, but you’re stuck the same," White warned.

Plenty of people were stuck on the roads in this storm yesterday. Parts of I-40 and I-17 shut down after vehicles slid off the highway. This morning, we have a report of a crash on I-40 near Holbrook that’s blocking lanes. Meanwhile, there’s more snow in the forecast this weekend. A second storm could dump 2 feet of snow in the White Mountains on Sunday.

Several semi-trucks crashed this morning on an icy stretch of Interstate 40 in eastern Arizona. The state’s transportation department says drivers need to use caution in the area blanketed by this large winter storm. No word yet of any serious injuries because of this crash. But ADOT says the roads are very icy.
