Public districts and charters are gearing up in case of a widespread teacher strike, planned for next Thursday. Administrators are looking for any way to keep schools open.

Peoria Unified School District has 42 schools that could potentially be affected by a walkout.

“What we do have is a great relationship with our teachers," said spokeswoman Danielle Airey. They’ve been doing their best to keep us updated, to keep us informed.”

The statewide walkout is to demand better and more state education funding.

Airey said the district has connections with the city of Glendale, Peoria, local churches and others that could step in and help in case of school closures.

“And they’re offering resources," Airey said. We’re committed to providing access to those resources for our families so we’ll certainly have information built out on our site  that details the community partners that are able and willing to help our families.”

Parents will be told 24 hours in advance if a school will be closed.
