The average gas price in Arizona is currently $2.80 per gallon, which is about six cents higher than it was just a week ago. So what is pumping up the prices?

Gas prices have climbed to their highest point in almost three years, and are expected to continue rising. 

The increase is due to more expensive crude oil prices caused by unrest in the Middle-East combined with skyrocketing domestic demand. That demand is the highest on record for the month of April

AAA's Michele Donati said that this combination has created a perfect storm.

“If you compare it to a year ago then the statewide average is almost 50 cents higher than it was this time last year, and then the national average is about 36 cents higher," she said.

Donati said prices will likely remain high during the summer months, and that this will be the most expensive summer for gas prices since 2015.
