School districts are planning for the teacher walkout extending to Monday and many are staying closed.

Nearly all the state’s largest districts closed Thursday and Friday and some are now looking to close Monday.

Deer Valley and Mesa Unified School Districts announced they would be closed for as long as the walkout continues.

Peoria Unified School District also said schools will shut down Monday. So will Chandler Unified Schools. Chandler district initially announced it would stay open, after considering a poll of teachers and staff, but determined on Friday there would not be enough educators and will close school doors.

Districts will have to make up the lost days at the end of the school year.

Education group leaders say they hope to work over the weekend with lawmakers and teachers, then rally at the Capitol again Monday if nothing changes.
