Temperatures in Phoenix could hit 108 on Sunday, which would break the previous record of 105 set in 1947.

James Sawtell, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Phoenix, said the heat is expected to linger.

“As a result of this heat we’re in for a prolonged period of 100-degree plus temperatures," said Sawtell.

Sawtell said while this is an unusually early heat wave, it’s not unprecedented. He said we can have very hot springs, though we get most of our heat waves in June when it’s really dry.
