After a nearly decade-long process, California has become the first state to require every new home to be built with solar power. This requirement, which goes into effect in 2020, was unanimously approved by the California Energy Commission.

In a few minutes, we’ll hear from an academic with some concerns about that development.

For concerns and perspectives on the development, The Show talked to Morten Lund, a partner with the law firm Stoel Rives who practices in the energy development group.

But not everyone thinks this mandate is good for California.

Lucas Davis teaches business at the University of California Berkeley, and he is one of the folks who is raising concerns about this new requirement. While he’s not a fan of greenhouse gases or thinks the state shouldn't be investing in renewable energy, he doesn’t think this is the way to go about it.

His first concern? Affordable housing. The Show's Lauren Gilger talked with Davis to learn more.
