We all have stress in our lives, but we all handle it differently. Research has shown that for people who haven’t been injured in some way, stress is the most common cause of pain.

Scientists from the University of Arizona will be looking into that — and looking for ways to prevent it. They’ve gotten a nearly $3 million grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke to understand how stress can trigger pain.

Frank Porreca is one of those scientists — he’s a professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Anesthesiology in the College of Medicine at UA.
