The Maricopa County Community College District governing board approved a tuition decrease Tuesday.

The budget will lower tuition by $1 per credit hour. For a typical student taking 30 credit hours a year, that means a $30 savings.

The decrease comes as other public higher education institutions in the state raise fees for the 2018-2019 school year.

Community college officials said they’re trying to show students how much the district values them.

And, the employees too: the budget also includes a one-time, $750 stipend for full-time staff, about a $40 pay raise per credit hour for adjuncts and a $0.25 raise per hour for hourly staff.
