The Phoenix Burton Barr Central Library has been closed since last July after floods caused significant damage throughout the building.

After almost a year of renovations, Phoenix library officials announced on Wednesday when it will reopen.

The grand reopening will take place on Saturday, June 16, at 9 a.m. It will include free family-friendly activities including storytimes for children, STEAM programs and more.

Library spokeswoman Lee Franklin said improvements to the facility include expansions in the children's area and computer labs.

"We're excited to be able to bring library services back to our beloved Burton Barr Central Library," Franklin said, "and are hoping that our public and our customers will come see us that day."

The library has operated a temporary location at Park Central Mall since Burton Barr shut down, but Franklin said the temporary location will close on June 8. A book drop will be available at the Park Central location until June 17.
