The Highway 377 fire burning near Heber-Overgaard has swelled to 1,500 acres and has led to power outages in the area. The fire was sparked by a semi-truck dragging parts of a trailer along the highway. Spokesman Colin Williams said the blaze has led to evacuations.

“Well it is our understanding that yesterday, it was really just a small group of ranches and a very small (group of) people, roughly two dozen people, that were affected and evacuated from the path of the fire,” Williams said.

The Red Cross opened shelters for people seeking refuge from the fire. A recorded message from the Navopache Electric Cooperative anticipates power will be restored late afternoon or early evening.
