Since 1900, thousands of Native American women have been murdered or have simply gone missing. Annita Lucchesi has documented at least 2,500 of them.

Why are these women disappearing? How many more could be out there? And how has her own story motivated this work?

Lucchesi is of Southern Cheyenne descent and gathered her data from newspapers, social media and by submitting countless public records requests to local police departments, which aren’t required to add missing persons to a federal database.

Her database includes cases of missing indigenous women and girls, 14 trans women and many other details about each case.
