Law enforcement agencies across Arizona will soon have a way to get search warrants electronically. They’ll be able to use a system to obtain blood samples in cases involving suspected drunken-drivers, vehicle-related homicide and aggravated assault.

According to the Associated Press, requests are sent electronically to Maricopa County Superior Court judges and then issued electronically to law enforcement agencies. It’s supposed to reduce costs of materials and save time.

The state Supreme Court authorized courts and law enforcement agencies in Maricopa County to participate in an electronic search warrant program in 2012. That was expanded in 2016. Now all law enforcement agencies across the state can use the system, beginning in August.
