A year after Phoenix approved financial incentives to encourage more international flights at Sky Harbor Airport, three airlines are getting paid.

Air Canada was the first to qualify for an incentive when it began nonstop service between Phoenix and Montreal on February 22. According to a city report, Montreal was Phoenix’s largest Canadian market without nonstop service.

The city will reimburse Air Canada up to $87,486 for marketing costs and waive another $50,000 in general fees the first year.

British Airways will get a $12 credit for each net new Phoenix passenger on additional flights to London. Credits cannot exceed the monthly rent of $13,533.54.

German airline, Condor, started nonstop service to Frankfurt on May 18. The Aviation Department said Frankfurt was Phoenix’s second-largest European market without nonstop service.

In exchange, Phoenix will reimburse Condor up to $410,000 for marketing costs and waive another $200,000 in general fees the first year.
