AARP invested $60 million in dementia research in honor of its 60th anniversary.

The 2017 Census projects that older adults will outnumber children within a couple decades for the first time in U.S history. Aging is the number one risk factor for dementia and AARP found that brain health is one of the top areas of concern for its members.

“The Dementia Discovery Fund brings together the world's best minds to accelerate global research efforts to pioneer new drugs to prevent and treat the disease,” said Dana Kennedy, director of Arizona AARP.

The city of Tempe has also launched an initiative that trains people how to interact with people who have dementia. Kennedy believes that collaboration is necessary to help families and build healthy communities.
