Proposed I.D.E.A. Center next to Tempe Town Lake

I.D.E.A., which stands for Innovation, Discovery, Education and Arts, is a new 18-acre, 1 million square foot project along Tempe Town Lake that includes five commercial office buildings and hotel, restaurant and retail space.

It is set to open in late 2019, and this week, the city of Tempe announced that the medical technology company, Becton Dickinson, will be I.D.E.A.'s first tenant.

Donna Kennedy, Tempe's economic development director, said she is excited for the company to anchor the development.

"Having a world-class company like Becton Dickinson to anchor I.D.E.A. Tempe is a great start toward building this campus," Kennedy said. "That will only set the stage for the rest of the tenants to come."

The company already employs more than 500 workers in Tempe, but Kennedy said hundreds of new employees are expected at the new office site when it opens.
