There’s been a lot of focus on illegal immigration in the U.S. right now as the Trump administration’s "zero tolerance" policy plays out at the border. But, a recent study from the Pew Research Center turns our attention to legal immigration. Its findings show a long term change.

Even as the political rhetoric focuses on illegal immigration at the border, the Pew study shows more people today support increasing levels of legal immigration.

It also showed that 65 percent of those surveyed said that undocumented immigrants are not more likely to commit crimes; 71 percent said undocumented immigrants mostly fill jobs citizens don’t want.

Now, this survey was conducted before the crisis over separating families at the border, but with such a disparity between rhetoric and these findings, where does the reality lie?

For more on that, The Show sat down with Daisy Camacho-Thompson, faculty research assistant at the REACH Institute in the psychology department at Arizona State University.
