After historically low voter turnout during the 2014 and 2016 elections, a new report finds that Arizona could encourage hundreds of thousands of more eligible residents to vote.

The 50-state report encourages states to adopt policies that make voting more convenient.

Danielle Root is the voting rights manager with the Center for American Progress, which produced the study.

“If Arizona implemented automatic voter registration, the state could expect over 176,000 additional voters. For same-day voter registration, including election day, Arizona could see more than 133,000 additional voters," she said.

Arizona currently provides for online registration, no-excuse absentee voting and early voting; three out of eight recommended ways to boost voter participation.
