There’s a generational war going on in the workplace, at least when it comes to finding employees to fill jobs.

Generation Y and Z workers look for perks and benefits. Generation X workers look for pay raises. Enterprise Bank & Trust’s nationwide survey gauges trends that business owners face.

Jeff Friesen is President of the bank’s Arizona region. He says employers need to adapt workplaces to attract younger workers in all industries.

“You know, in Arizona, the number one job creation in our market has been construction. They are feeling just as much trouble as anybody within the tech industry is,” Friesen said.

Friesen says more than 80 percent of survey respondents report employee recruiting as a top three business issue, impacting profitability. Over 67 percent of survey respondents report they cannot find younger people to fill positions.
