Gov. Doug Ducey has declared a state of emergency for the town of Mammoth in Pinal County. The move will provide $200,000 in emergency funding to the town after monsoon weather disrupted access to potable water.

The emergency declaration comes after more than three inches of rain damaged roadways and infrastructure.

The declaration states that water saturating the ground caused soil instability which compromised the town’s water system.

Citing a potential for the disruption of emergency services, the governor’s office said Monday the declaration would “ensure that necessary resources are available to protect the lives, pets and property of Arizonans.”

The General Fund will supply $200,000 to the Arizona Division of Emergency Management to fund emergency measures and permanent repairs.

In the meantime, the town of Mammoth has established cooling centers and is distributing water to residents.
