An annual report shows Arizona is facing a teacher shortage for the fourth year in a row.

More charters and school districts responded to this year’s Arizona School Personnel Administrators Association survey than in years past.

178 schools filled out the survey. The results show a quarter of teacher positions were left vacant over the last school year.

Like the trends of the past year, a greater number of positions were filled with teachers who don’t meet state certification requirements.

One district, Mesa Public Schools, cut its number of vacancies in half from 2016, to about 60 this year.
